PowerPC G2

PowerPC G2

PowerPC G2 microprocessor technical specifications

Developed by: IBM
Launched: 1995
ALU bits: 32
Clock: 66 MHz
Family: PowerPC
Transistors: 1 600 000
Technology: 0.5 µm
Voltage: 3.3 V

The family of processors 602, 603, 604, 620, 8200 and 5000.

The 603 processor was the second processor in the PowerPC family, ushering in the second generation of this architecture.
It was initially designed for laptops, but soon became part of desktop computers. Between 1995 and 1998, it powered Apple consumer computers, along with the PowerPC 604, which powered professional computers.

The PowerPC 602 was a simplified version of the PowerPC 603, manufactured specifically for video game consoles and introduced in February 1995.
The 620 was the first 64-bit implementation of the PowerPC.

Manufacturer: Motorola
Launched: 1994
Bits: 32
Clock: 50 MHz
Transistors: 2 500 000
Voltage: 3.3 V

The Motorola 68060 was the last of the 68k family. It was two to three times more powerful than its predecessor, the 68040, and featured an integrated floating-point unit (FPU) and memory management unit (MMU).

Manufacturer: Intel
Launched: 1995
Bits: 32
Clock: 150 MHz
Transistors: 5 500 000
Technology: 0.5 nanometers

An evolution of the Pentium, but with RISC architecture.
It was very inexpensive, but suffered from a problem with floating-point calculations, which was called flag erratum. It was soon discontinued.
