DEC was an American company considered a pioneer in the manufacture of minicomputers.

Its VT100 terminal became the industry standard.

Digital responded to the challenge of the IBM PC (which later became the compatible standard) with three computer models based on its proprietary architecture, all of which were commercial failures.

Since 1970, it has manufactured printers with some success. In 1997, the printer business was sold to GENICOM.
