Triton Quick Disk Drive is an external floppy disk drive, with integrated power supply, for Quick Disk diskettes designed by Radofin and marketed both by the brand itself and under third-party brands.
Although the Triton Quick Disk uses floppy disks, access is not random but sequential (as with a tape). Unlike standard disk drives, where individual tracks can be accessed by positioning the read/write head with a stepper motor, the Triton QD combines the rotation of the disk with continuous linear tracking of the head, creating a single spiral track along the disk, similar to a vinyl record. The spiral is completed in eight seconds, after which the linear motion is deactivated and it returns to its initial position. This means consecutive access time is limited to eight seconds. Overall, this works faster than Microdrive and is similar to Wafadrive. Formatting is only required once, resulting in an extremely fast format time. The interface serves only one drive, and if a second drive is required, a second interface must be installed.
