A subsidiary of the Japanese watch brand SEIKO.
Founded in 1892 in Tokyo as a watch manufacturing company, it later went on to manufacture dot-matrix printers.
When the Seiko Group was selected as the official supplier for the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, they were asked to develop a timekeeping system for sporting events, and Shinshu Seiki began developing an electronic printer.
In 1982, Shinshu Seiki changed its name to Epson Corporation.
