2M

Developed by: Ciriaco García de Celis
Launched: 1993
Innovation: This small program was loaded resident in memory and allowed the floppy disk capacity to be increased compared to that offered by the MS-DOS operating system.

2M is a tiny, free MS-DOS resident program (only 128 bytes) that allows you to format 3.5-inch disks to 1.88 MB, and 5.5-inch disks to 1.4 MB, developed by Spanish programmer Ciriaco García de Celis.

Its ease of use made it very popular, until its 1995 version 3.0.

To increase disk capacity, it reduced the disk gap 3 when formatting, thereby placing more sectors on the tracks.
It also used sectors larger than 512 bytes and even sectors of different sizes on the tracks. This latter format will have slightly more capacity, but less speed and reliability.
