Counterpoint

Developed by:
Launched: 1991
Innovation: It allowed you to go from .bat files to a graphical menu in VGA, on a modest XT.

The Counterpoint program launcher was supplied with the Amstrad PC5086 and other Amstrad PCs of the time.
It acts as an easy-to-use front-end, replacing the full GUIs (Windows 2.0, or GEM) supplied with previous Amstrad models.

Counterpoint, in its Amstrad version, uses a color VGA display using the 16-color 640x480 mode.

The program functioned as a graphical menu to launch applications, providing quick access.

It included an icon library that automatically associated applications, which it was able to recognize by their executable file names, with the main programs of the time.

The Amstrad-branded version opens with a warning that it should only be used on Amstrad computers. However, it works correctly in non-Amstrad environments.
