Wolfenstein 3D

Developed by: ID Software
Launched: 1992
Innovation: The representation, in a fake 3D, of a first-person shooter.

The pioneering first-person shooter for PCs, when they lacked 3D capabilities, set a milestone that would later give rise to Doom and Quake.

Created by ID Software and distributed by Apogee Software, it would later be ported to other systems such as the 3DO, SNES, Gameboy Advance, and Spectrum, among others.

Wolfenstein 3D Furer encounter
Wolfenstein 3D was released as shareware, which allowed it to be widely distributed.
This shareware version contained one episode, consisting of 10 missions.
The commercial version contained three episodes (including the shareware):

"Escape from Wolfenstein" (shareware episode)
"Operation: Eisenfaust"
"Die, Führer, Die"

Like the shareware episode, each episode of the commercial version has 10 levels, completing a total of 60 missions in the game.

A later expansion called "The Nocturnal Missions" was released, which contained three new episodes:

"A Dark Secret"
"Trail of the Madman"
"Confrontation"
