Oric is a microcomputer brand, owned by the British company Tangerine Computer Systems and, after its bankruptcy, by the French company Eureka. It launched three models in the 1980s: the Oric-1, the first microcomputer to become widely available in homes in the United Kingdom and France, where it was voted "Computer of the Year" in 1983, and then the Oric Atmos, also voted "Computer of the Year" in 1984 in France. This was followed by a third Oric Telestrat model with a smaller distribution, although it should be noted that Atmos clones continued to be sold in Eastern Europe until the 1990s.
The range accumulated just under 400,000 units sold in Europe, a respectable volume, but still far from matching its competitors at the time: the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64.
Tangerine originally produced one of the first kit computers based on the 6502 microprocessor, the Microtan 65.
And in 1983, it launched the first computer under the Oric brand: the Oric 1, building on the previous work and structure of the kits.
